"Getting Your Money's Worth" with Judith West
- Program Director, New York Coalition for Healthy School Food
Your youngster may enjoy his school lunch of fried chicken patty on a white roll followed by whole milk and a package of snack cakes. But he or she would be far better fed with a barbecue chicken patty on a whole grain roll with two percent milk and a sliced apple for dessert. And while GYMW is cautious about applauding Congressional legislation, we welcome the recent passage of the Child Nutrition Bill. It's the government's response to fighting childhood obesity. At the forefront of implementing healthy school lunches is Kelley Wind, program director of the New York Coalition for Healthy School Food. Her group works with teachers and dieticians to educate students in health literacy. Every parent should learn about Kelley Wind's project and take action as she discusses her program with Judith West on Getting Your Moneys Worth. Childhood obesity leads to lifelong health issues.
